DFS Family Directory - Troubleshooting: Run-time error; Component 'SYSINFO.OCX"... error

When logging in to the Desktop Family Directory after the 3/30/17 Microsoft update, many users are getting this error message:

sysinfo_ocx_error_image.jpg

This error message is a result of a Microsoft update where the system file, SYSINFO.OCX was incorrectly flagged as a worm that could infect your computer.

For additional information see the following Microsoft article: Microsoft Update

Unfortunately, they were wrong and it included a number of good files for many other programs as well: Update discussion

While Microsoft has made it so that anyone who updates their Antivirus in the future will not be affected - many computers were automatically updated and cannot use the Family Directory until the particular file that was removed by Microsoft is replaced.

Our Developers have been hard at work and have developed the attached fix in order to restore the file.

  • Please click on the attached file (ParishsoftSysInfo.ocxreinstall.exe) in order to download the file.
  • Find the downloaded file, right click and select "run as admin."
  • Press Next, next, yes to all and a black window will popup to register the file and finally it will say:

You may receive a Windows Compatibility message after the install is complete. Please click “Yes - this program did successfully install”.
