How to set up my software for optimal output of checks, forms, and PDF reports

Forms, Checks, and PDF Reports print a little differently than Print Preview in ConnectNow Accounting. They open up in a new window and use Adobe Reader which controls the actual printing. So if you are setting up your software to print checks or if your attempt to print checks, forms (such as 941, W2s, or 1099s) or to view a PDF was unsuccessful, it could be one of three things:

  1.  A pop-up blocker is preventing the window from showing 
  2.  The version/settings in Adobe Reader may be incorrect or you may need to install Adobe which is required to print all of these or
  3. If you use Firefox the most common issue, you may need to change your browser settings. If you are getting blank pages every other page when printing reports, you may need to update your page setup options.

Please Note: the only browsers we support in ConnectNow Accounting are: FireFox, Internet Explorer, and Safari. If you are using any other browsers besides the ones listed here, you must switch to one of these. Neither Chrome nor Edge is supported.


Pop-up Blocker Exceptions

Note: if you are on a different version of either of these browsers, you may need to google search for the instructions that apply to your own version of the browser.

FireFox: If you are using FireFox, click the following link to learn how to add site to the Firefox pop-up blocker exceptions.

Internet Explorer: If you are using Internet Explorer, click the following link to learn how to add site to the Internet Explorer pop-up blocker exceptions. Sometimes, when using Internet Explorer, even if your ConnectNow Accounting Site is added as a pop-up blocker exception, you do not see the pop-up. Periodically the pop-up is hiding behind the browser. If you hover your cursor over the Internet Explorer Icon at the bottom of your screen, you may see two mini windows display. One will be the screen you are on. The other may be your check PDF. If this is the case, click on that to bring it to the front and print your checks.


Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

First of all, if you do not have Adobe Reader installed, you’ll want to be sure to download and install Adobe Reader X (where X=current version), which can be downloaded for free from Adobe's Web Site

If you do have Adobe installed and checks have stopped printing or you have never been able to print them, you may need to update your version by using the same link.

Once you have installed Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, you must ensure your PDF files will always open using Adobe Acrobat Reader. To do this,

  • Find a PDF file on your hard drive
  • Right Click on the file
  • Select the option which says: Open With
  • Choose Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

Update your Page Setup Options

Intermittently, customers will get blank pages between their report pages. To address this, pull up the Firefox menu by clicking your keyboard Alt Key. Then, at the top, left, click File, Page Setup. The following window will display. Select Margins & Header/Footer and change the settings to match those shown in the image below. Then, click OK.


For Checks: In addition to setting up your browser and adding Adobe Acrobat Reader, you must also ensure you have an Account in your Chart which is set up as a Bank Account and you must also set up the check format to print properly for your particular checks and printer.
