How to add your mail server settings in Family Suite
The ParishSOFT Family Suite software doesn't actually send email. Instead, it forwards email messages through the server you already use to send your email.
Servers that send email are called SMTP Servers.
- Before you can send email through Family Suite, if you don't use one of the common email domains listed below, you must send your SMTP server settings to ParishSOFT Support who will enter them into Family Suite.
- Next, regardless of your domain, enter the mail server and email address for each staff member (different staff members can use different mail servers). See How to configure email settings for Staff. You may do this while waiting to hear back from the Support Team letting you know your SMTP server settings have been added.
- If staff later change their email password, they must also update these email settings. Having an incorrect stored password frequently foils email.
- Once those steps are done, the staff member can use their normal email username and password to initiate email through Family Suite.
This article covers the first step--making sure ParishSOFT has your mail server settings set up in Family Suite.
ParishSOFT has preloaded the most common mail servers into Family Suite, and if you use one of these, you are exempt from sending us anything and may move forward: Note: if you use Gmail with your own subdomain, you must continue to work through this article.
If your SMTP Server is not listed above, (or you use Gmail with your own subdomain) gather the following information and send it to ParishSOFT support
If the staff member's email (sub)domain is not listed above, note the mail server and go to the article Details on SMTP server settings. Then, include the following information in an email to ParishSOFT Support.
- Domain Name: the part of the email address after @
- SMTP Port: (a number)
- SSL or TLS Required? (Yes or No) These are security protocols some email servers require.
- SMTP Server Address: This is the mail server that will actually send the email.
Note: Often, if you know your domain name, you can search the web for the additional information requested. The links will take you to information for AT&T, Google, and Yahoo. Otherwise, you will need to contact your email provider to obtain the requested information.
