How to find the journal entry which was created when a check was voided

When a check is voided, the check record is updated with the void date and a reversing journal entry is created.

  • To find the voiding journal entry, you must first know the void date.

The Find Check screen will display the Void Date.

Go to Ledgers & Payables → Checks → Find Check

Use the criteria you know to search for the voided check. For example, use any or all of the following: the Vendor, the date range that the check was likely written, the checking account used, etc.

A list of all the checks that meet the entered criteria will display at the bottom of the screen. Once you find the voided check, note the Void Date.

How to find the journal entry which was created when a check was voided

To find the voiding journal entry number, use the Find Journal Entry screen or the Journal Entry List Report.

Journal Entry screen

  1. Go to Ledgers and Payables → Journal Entries → Find Journal Entry
  2. Enter the date of the voiding journal entry as shown above and click search.

Journal Entry List

  1. Go to Reports → Transactions → Journal Entry List.
  2. Enter the void date.


    View PDF then search the PDF using CTRL F to search for the check

 


If the check was not cleared but, the journal entry is not showing on the bank reconciliation review the bank reconciliations starting with the date of the void to see when the void was cleared. Or, more likely, the journal entry was deleted and must be recreated.
