Edit a Duplicate Marriage Record for Deletion or Inactivation

Important Notice: This article applies to the New ParishSOFT Platform. If your diocese hasn’t migrated yet, explore our knowledge base for relevant resources.

Note: Diocesan level permissions are required in order to delete a sacrament record. These steps show you how to either delete the record or, if restricted from doing that, make the record inactive so it won't show up on reports or member's sacraments.

In the Families module, navigate to Family Directory > Sacraments:

Search the marriage sacraments for the name you are looking for.

Note: Correct Marriage records will display once under each spouse

Click the Edit Sacrament button (pencil icon) for the record you wish to get rid of:

Review the record and ensure it is the one you want to delete or inactivate.

If you have the permissions to delete the record, you will see the Delete button after selecting Edit Details. Select the delete button.

There are three edits you need to make in order to inactivate the record:

  1. Remove the Completed checkmark.
  2. Click the person icon with a negative sign next to the spouse's name (this removes the link from the other member)
  3. Add a Date Ended to the marriage (pick an arbitrary date)

Save your changes. The record is now inactive.
