How to resolve this error when attempting to process payment, 'Only alphanumeric and -_',.: characters allowed"

If you are attempting to process a payment in the Virtual Terminal and have received the following error: "Only alphanumeric and -_',.: characters allowed" it is likely due to an ampersand (&) in the "Name on Card" field when the payment profile was created.

The offending characters must be removed and replaced, in this case with the word "and," in order for payments to be processed in the Virtual Terminal. Note: it will not affect recurring donations or one-time donations set up in the donor interface, text giving, the giving form, nor any event forms with payment capability.
