How to update the member and family records when a member gets married

Use Case: We had two members get married.

  1. Determine which record will be the head-of-household and create that new family record first by following the instructions that match their current status. More than one may apply:
    • If the new head-of-household is a person who is registered with another parish and who belongs to a multi-member family, you may* move this member into your parish as a registered member. After this, you may skip down to add the spouse to this new family record, #2.
    • If the new head-of-household is a person who is registered with another parish and who belongs to a single-member family you mustregister the member with your own parish. After this, you may skip down to add the spouse to this new family record, #2.
      * Make sure this person gets their contribution statement to date from their original church because the contributions do not move.
    • If the new head-of-household is an existing member from a multi-member family " href="/hc/en-us/articles/14636786813979" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"move the member from their existing family into their own new family record.
    • After this, you may skip down to add the spouse to this new family record, #2.
    • If the new head-of-household is an existing member from a single-member family, go to the next section on how to add the spouse to this family record.
  2. Add the spouse to the new family record created in step 1 by following the instructions that match their current status. More than one may apply:
    • If the spouse is a person who is registered with another parish and who belongs to a multi-member family, you may *move this member into your parish as a registered member. This person would then qualify for the bullet after next.
    • If the spouse is a person who is registered with another parish and who belongs to a single-member family you must *register the member with your own parish. This person would then qualify for the next bullet.
*Make sure this person gets their contribution statement to date from their original church because the contributions do not move.
    • If the spouse is an existing member from a single-member family you must **" href="/hc/en-us/articles/14637527824283" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"import the member from a single-member family into their new family record
    • If the spouse is an existing member from a multi-member family **" href="/hc/en-us/articles/14637522453787" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"move the member from their existing family into their own new family record.
**If the spouse's contributions were associated with their original family record rather than with their member record, this may be handled as follows:
      1. Create a batch which moves each contribution from the original family record to this new family record

Once the head-of-household and spouse are both members of the same family record, you will want to do the following:
